I Saw It Coming book cover

Tracy E. K’Meyer and Joy L. Hart, both University of Louisville scholars, gather oral histories from workers displaced by plant closings across Louisville, Kentucky. The workers speak in their own words about losing skilled factory jobs, demanding recognition for their expertise, and holding business and government accountable for the fallout.

Their accounts reveal a deep sense of betrayal when the trust between workers and employers broke down. Drawing on the University of Louisville’s Oral History Center, K’Meyer and Hart give a human voice to deindustrialization. They show how displaced workers understood, explained, and resisted the collapse of their livelihoods.
