Hotels Near Churchill Downs: Where to Stay for the Track

Churchill Downs has been running horses since 1875, when Meriwether Lewis Clark Jr. — grandson of William Clark of the Lewis and Clark expedition — founded the track and, with it, the Kentucky Derby. You don’t have to visit during the first Saturday in May to appreciate the place; the track, the museum, and the surrounding neighborhood are worth a stop any time of year. These hotels put you close to the action without the Derby-week price spike. This page contains affiliate links. For flights, start here, and for hotels, here.

Four Points by Sheraton Louisville Airport

A dependable landing spot when your plans revolve around Churchill Downs, the airport, or the Kentucky Exposition Center. It’s close enough to the track that you’ll spend more time watching horses than sitting in traffic getting there.

Homewood Suites By Hilton Louisville Airport

Closer to a short-term Louisville apartment than a hotel room, with roomy suites and full kitchens. It’s the pick for families, longer stays, or anyone who refuses to live out of a suitcase for a long weekend at the races.

The Brown Hotel

Not the closest option to the track, but worth the extra drive if the trip is about more than logistics. The Brown has been a Louisville tradition since 1923, and between its two-story lobby and the original Hot Brown sandwich, it’s a stop most Derby visitors make at least once regardless of where they’re sleeping.
