Gallopalooza: Louisville’s Sidewalk Derby

Lynn Huffman

Gallopalooza book cover

Louisville’s public art project Gallopalooza turned life-size fiberglass horses into a citywide gallery, painted, sculpted, and decorated by dozens of regional, professional, and amateur artists.

Author Lynn Huffman and photographer Dan Dry document the entire herd in this coffee-table book, with a foreword by then-Mayor Jerry Abramson, more than 300 color photographs, and background on each horse and the artist behind it.

Part public art retrospective, part love letter to the Kentucky Derby, it captures a moment when the whole city turned its sidewalks into a gallery of horses.
